About me. 👋
Ahoy! I’m Maya Battistella (she/her)—a lighting designer, technician, programmer, lighting enthusiast etc. etc. etc.
I graduated from SUNY New Paltz in May 2025 with a BA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Design and Technology, focusing in Lighting, and a minor in Film and Video Studies.
In college, I was the president and one of the founders of the school’s Theatre Arts Tech and Design Association (TADA) and helped bring students to USITT three years in a row, growing the number of attendees from 4 people to 16. With my peers, I also rebuilt the SUNY New Paltz Theatre Arts Department’s system for student produced work. And with my professor/mentor, Travis McHale, I designed and built a light lab for future lighting students at New Paltz. In May 2025 I presented my Honors Thesis, “Theatre Leadership in Action: Rebuilding a Light Lab, Tech and Design Association, and the SET Stage Series” covering these three projects.
I’m interested in lighting in a variety of contexts. Community and education are my passions, and I love bringing the joy of theater to those around me whether through education or by creating art with my friends and family! I’ve worked on plays, musicals, music-based improvisation, in schools, and in music venues.
My free time is also spent creating! I love to knit, create 2D visual art, and hang out with my cat (when she lets me).

I look forward to working with you!
