About me. 👋
Hi there! I’m Maya Battistella (she/her)—a lighting designer, technician, programmer, lighting enthusiast etc. etc. etc.
I graduated from SUNY New Paltz in May 2025 with a BA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Design and Technology, focusing in Lighting, and a minor in Film and Video Studies.
In college I was the president and one of the founders of the school’s Theatre Arts Tech and Design Association (TADA) and helped bring students to USITT three years in a row, growing the number of attendees from 4 people to 16. With my peers, I also rebuilt the SUNY New Paltz Theatre Arts Department’s system for student produced work. And with my professor/mentor, Travis McHale, I designed and built a light lab for future lighting students at New Paltz. In May 2025 I presented my Honors Thesis, “Theatre Leadership in Action: Rebuilding a Light Lab, Tech and Design Association, and the SET Stage Series” covering these three projects.

I’ve worked as an electrician or board operator on many of the school’s productions throughout my college career. I’ve also worked as the production head electrician, programmer, assistant lighting designer, and lighting designer on various productions throughout my time at SUNY New Paltz.
I’m interested in lighting in a variety of contexts. I’ve worked on plays, musicals, music-based improvisation, and in music venues. Creating community-based work and art is what inspires me.
I also create in my free time. I love fiber arts and 2D visual arts!

I look forward to working with you!
